Tanking

Michael Hanelt's Big Fish Tank
It's halftime in Michael's prison sentence, well, beyond halftime, and I figured it was high time to start cleaning out the living room fish tank. It's gotten pretty nasty in the seventeen months since he's been gone, and I was hoping that at some point in the not-too-distant future to be able to invite human beings into our home, for whatever reason. Michael installed the tank with pebbles over sand, and I have to fish it all out with the net all at once, which means that once I've rinsed it off I have to separate it as well. I tried an extra screen door we've got lying around, I think for one of Will's art projects, and that was probably the worst idea. For the middle set of pebbles I used a colander from the kitchen. I know, kind of nasty when you think about the fact that there was tons of fish poop in and among the pebbles and sand. It worked great and I have the pebbles and sand soaking in bleach. It’s really a boring and tedious job, pulling the big rocks and soaking them in bleach, then back in regular water before rinsing it all off to put back in the tank. I kind of thrive on that sort of tedium, and once I get started, I can’t seem to stop until it’s finished. This will be a project of which I can be proud, however, when I see the glowing bright colors of the fish tank after it’s finished.
